Sometimes the Packaging Makes a Difference

After attending my good friend Mac’s wedding, I learned a hard lesson on tackiness. They sent out invitations saying they preferred to receive monetary gifts and I didn’t give a thought as to how I would present my ‘monetary gift’. Usually, when I attend my friends’ weddings I go to their bridal registry and base my choice there; have my gift wrapped in fancy paper and voila, done.

Sometime in the past I had a collection of personalized stationery that I’d use to write thoughtful notes to people around the office. I figured that my officemates would find it sweeter if i placed my requests for photocopies and errands on scented paper. Now, if I had only remembered to buy one of those prior to the wedding I attended, I would not have used a long white, plain envelop to place my gift in.

Did I hand my gift to them in the wrinkled envelop that I bought from a nearby vendor? NO! At the last minute, I had to improvise. It’s a good thing that one of the guests that I arrived with decided to gift wrap her boxed gift in a nearby restaurant. Talk about being uprepared. Anyway, she had some glossy and stationery paper left over. I created my own original origami right there to the amusement of the restaurant staff. It’s not much, but at least it wasn’t plain.

Lesson learned.
