Tantrums

I’ve been a mom for a time now but I still feel that parent’s sense of helplessness and feeling of being torn (between scolding and cajoling) when a child is having a fit.

Sometimes, the reason is simply boredom, or the desire to do something that one cannot do at the moment. This photo is that of my son throwing his bed covers on the floor. He was told that he can’t play outside yet because (1) it’s raining and (2) he just took a bath 30 minutes ago and we don’t want him to get dirty so soon.

I used to think that my parents were heartless because my tantrums didn’t seem to work. Like they just tell me “that won’t get you anywhere”. Or so it seems. I think they just, over time, learned how to deal with kids’ tantrums and have already mastered how to put on that poker-faced mask when their child is having a fit.

I would love to learn that skill soon. But for now, it’s “hug-the-crying-baby” method of dealing with it.

I can’t say much other than hang in there, and it WILL get better, but I know that none of that helps at the moment.

Thanks! It’s comforting to know that a lot of parents are going through the same things. It’s so nice to be a parent :D

Hi Woobie, I guess tantrums are normal for toddlers. Oh boy, especially going to the mall in toys department…Grace it right! *wink*

Yeah, there are times when he just slumps on the floor and don’t want to walk anymore when on the malls. I feel helpless, but thanks to your comments, I have hope!
